USA Pavilion at Expo 2020

The project

The USA Pavilion is amongst the 50+ projects Electra delivered on the expo site. It is one of our proudest expo achievements for which we were appointed main contractor (building + full interior fit-out) by EXPO 2020, The US State Department and our client the Thinkwell Group who designed the 43,000 square feet (4,000 sqm) building. Electra brought the vision of EXPO 2020 and Thinkwell to life by turning this complex custom-made clouded tent into a high-tech pavilion.

The two-floored exhibition takes visitors on a 20-minute journey through seven different exhibits showcasing the past, present, and future of American innovation. The tour starts with the made to order half-sized ‘Statue of Liberty’ hand and torch followed by the original first iPhone displayed in a screen-covered room. The visitor experience is made effortless with a custom-made moving walkway through the stunning exhibits, notably an 8-minutes augmented reality show representing space and planets on a giant LED screened roof. For this show, Electra produced a 16-foot (5 meters) sphere to represent the Moon, Mars, and much more.

In addition, the USA Pavilion includes one restaurant, one bar, one VIP area, backstage parkour for the staff, and 3 elevators (1 with panoramic view). Electra also made possible the full-scale replica of the Falcon 9 rocket that is culminating at 137 feet (42 meters), making it the second tallest structure in Expo. This exhibit also marks the first-ever production to use Black 3.0, the blackest and mattest acrylic paint on the planet.

The enormous build-up lasted 2 years starting in January 2019 until September 2021, the project was delivered on time and in constant communication and collaboration with the client. Electra took the opportunity of such a big exhibit to take another step forward on sustainability: all aluminum (115t), steel (220t), and electrical structure, as well as the PVC roof, will be recycled after dismantling.

In March 2022, the USA Pavilion won the Muse Award for the Experiential & Immersive pavilion at Expo 2020.

In June 2022, Electra won the Best Temporary Venue or Structure Award for its work on the USA Pavilion at the Middle East Event Awards.
